  Alicia is fantastic!!! If you go into this bar (which you should), ask for her. She's friendly and will tell you some great history about the place! The food was awesome and Alicia makes a great holiday White Russian.(:

  My first visit at the Silver Dollar Saloon was back in 1956, when I was an Army Aviator with the U.S. Army Mountain and Cold Weather Training Command (M&CWTC) stationed at Camp Hale. My buddy, Tom, another pilot of the same Army unit, took me there on one cold evening to partake of some beer. Tom had been with the Army unit much longer than I, and he had visited the saloon many times. Leadville was a raw town back then and very few vacation travelers ever stopped there during light nor darkness. Silver coins were not scarce in Leadville and they were usually given as change when larger paper bills were spent.
  
  The Bartender was a medium-to large sized woman about the age of thirty-five to forty. She had a great gift of gab, and she knew how to keep the customer's glasses full. She enjoyed listening to jokes and telling them, too. Only sandwiches and hamburgers were served, beside chips, etc. at the saloon.
  
  I learned quickly, that first evening, that high altitude caused one to become inebriated very quickly and thereafter, I kept that truth in mind. Years later I visited Leadville while I was on a vacation and I learned that Leadville had become a tourist town.
